Whilst the scope of defining Business Continuity is wider than just communications, clearly a significant 'risk' area that must be addressed is the continuity of it's communications infrastructure and applications. This is where convergence can, and is playing, a signifcant role. As per many 'data' services and applications today, virtualizing and distributing telephony services as an application, and sharing common network infrastructure, allows for hugely flexible and resiliant network topologies, increasing scope for continuity and contingency planning.

Database, Call/Contact Centre, Web site, Email, PBX - these and more, are the various communications methods used throughout the business and comercial world we now live in today. However, increased adoption and dependancy upon these services must follow with strategies and contingencies for unforseen events and disasters such as fire & floods as well as those secuity threats such as September 11th where it has been estimated that some 58% of UK organisations were disrupted.
