Quality of Service (QoS) Approach -
IntServ / PHB DiffServ
Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) is an IETF standard that allows a host to request a specific Quality of Service (QoS) requirement from the network, on behalf of an application data stream. RSVP carries the request through the network, visiting each node the network uses to carry the stream. At each node, RSVP attempts to make a resource reservation for the stream, before reporting back to the application and allowing the call/communication. PHB QoS falls under the DiffServ QoS approach, and sees the host / application marking traffic types to be used to provide priority on a PHB basis through the network.
